This taonga is based on a tekoteko style carving that can be seen positioned on the apex roof top of a whare nui (meeting house) or within the whare itself. 

A tekoteko represents a founding tipuna or ancestor of a rohe, area, hapu or iwi. 

You might want to wear this taonga in memory of a special person in your life, someone you look up to, who was or is a great mentor or one of your tupuna who had great character and qualities.

This tekoteko peice holds a tewhatewha (weapon) used for navigation, protection and represents leadership - someone of great status and respect from the people hold one.

This taonga measures 11.4mm x 4.4mm, is double-sided with paua inlay. It comes with a black, waxed cord which is adjustable. Cord placed in the rear to ensure the tekoteko face is able to be seen.
