Bone Carving #63 Kahutia-te-rangi (Paikea)

Kahutia-te-rangi, (sometimes referred to as Paikea due to his journey by whale) is an ancestor of many iwi and is said to have arrived to Aotearoa by tohorā (a whale).

Two iwi Ngāti Porou and Ngāi Tahu have shared ancestry that traces back to Kahutia-te-rangi or Paikea. Porourangi (Ngati Porou) and Tahupōtiki (Ngai Tahu) were brothers and the great-great grandsons of Kahutia-te-rangi (Paikea).

This is a premium taonga, rich in traditional story and whakapapa. This taonga is a symbol of connection between iwi and might be the perfect gifts for someone special (or send someone the link as a hint to what you might like a as a gift).

It has been made with absolute aroha by the creator who knows it will go home with a special someone soon.

He measures 15cm x 4.4cm, is double-sided, and comes with a brown adjustable waxed cord.
