This taonga represents the Pare or the carved image, often seen over the top of some doorways or windows in wharenui.

The tupuna (ancestor) is represented in the centre, and the sides are the carved kaitiaki (guardians). The Pare also represents the transitional space from the marae-atea to the whare nui. 

If you have a tupuna you want to remember or hold close, this taonga could be a representation of those special to you. 

It measures 11.4cm x 3cm, is double-sided, and comes with a lashed black adjustable waxed cord.
