Bone Carving #33 Manaia (Rangi and Papa)

This taonga represents a series depicting Ranginui and Papatūānuku (sky father or heavens above us, and the earth mother or the land below), a prominent traditional depiction of the Te Ao Māori story of creation. 

We are connected to both the sky and land through our physical life here on planet Earth. It can be a taonga for someone interested in keeping our environment (te taiao) healthy or can be a reminder that we are spiritual beings in a physical world. 

It measures 8.4cm length x 3.8 cm width, is double-sided, has paua inlay for eyes and an adjustable, plaited, black wax cord.
