This taonga is a Hei-toki, originally used for carving, shaping, fashioning and sculpturing wood (rakau). The patterns on the taonga represent 3 gifts or aspects, potentially interpreted as: 

• The 3 kete of knowledge - Tuauri, Tuatea, Aronui or;
• Te Matua, Te Tama me Te Wairua Tapu (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) or;
• Mind, Body and Soul. 

In essence, this taonga embodies spiritual wellbeing, higher-level knowledge and experience. Being gifted with skills and understanding that helps us live as a spirit-being in a human, physical world. 

Measures 9cm length x 2.8cm width, double-sided, black, adjustable, waxed cord.
